This ring features a sky blue Skylakes turquoise cabochon with a fine black matrix. I made this ring with a special finish so that it looks like a satin finish with a patina.
My process: I wrapped the stone in a fine silver bezel for sizing and then attached the bezel to a piece of sterling silver sheet. I then wrapped the bead and twist sterling wire into a circle and attached it around the outside of the bezel. The sterling sheet was trimmed then with a jeweler’s saw to leave a lip all of backplate all of the way around the stone. The sterling wire was formed into a ring shank and attached to the back of the backplate. After oxidizing the entire ring and polishing it to get just the right amount of oxidation to accentuate the details, this ring took a spin in Hone & Highlight to achieve the final finish.
