This lovely little ring features a dark blue Kyanite cabochon and a flower casting (from @silversmithnursery). This Kyanite is almost a sapphire blue with that Kyanite shimmer when the light hits it just right.
My process: I wrapped the stone in a fine silver bezel soldered closed and then soldered the bezel to a piece of 22 gauge sterling silver sheet metal. Next the sterling flower casting was attached to the backplate before the sheet was then trimmed to size with a jeweler’s saw and hand filed smooth. The intricate swirl sterling wire was then shaped into a ring shank and soldered to the back of the backplate. The ring then took a spin in the tumbler for a final polish and hardening before I set the stone.
Here’s some info for my fellow rock geeks: Kyanite is an aluminosilicate mineral most commonly seen in shades of blue. This shimmery stone can range in color from very light blues to a dark sapphire blue but it may not be blue at all. Kyanite can also be green, yellow, orange, white, or even black.

Please keep in mind that all pieces of jewelry from Tabby Cat are handmade using natural gemstones. Handmade means that there may be marks from the tools used in the process of making the setting. Natural gemstones are just that- natural. They may have pits in the surface or inclusions visible in transparent and translucent stones. These things just add to the charm of piece.
